Join Gia Gunn & Laganja for a ‘Drag Queen Mukbang’ With Jack Daniel’s

Bring an appetite, because Jack Daniel’s is serving up a “Drag Queen Mukbang!”
The Tennessee whiskey brand has partnered with some of America’s top drag performers for a new digital series, “Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire Presents Drag Queen Mukbang.” A “mukbang,” for the unfamiliar, is an online trend of a host eating food while dishing on other topics.
In the four-part series, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Gia Gunn and Laganja Estranja, as well as YouTube makeup guru Patrick Starr and Try Guys star Eugene Lee Yang, host a virtual drag brunch where they bring humor and a serving of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire to the table. “For some reason, food, drink and drag just seem to go together,” quipped Estranja in a statement.
The members of this make-upped lineup also demonstrate their resourcefulness by recording their episodes themselves from quarantine using their own set materials and costumes.
“I wore a costume that I already had on hand and did the makeup myself,” attested Yang, who came out as gay in 2019 and embraces genderfluidity under a drag persona, Cheyenne Pepper. “We may be limited in what we can do while filming, but Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire worked with us every step of the way to create the ultimate drag-themed mukbang experience.”

In addition to laughs, these entertainers give insights about the health pandemic’s impact on the LGBTQ+ community, especially drag performers, many of whom lost their livelihoods after venues shuttered.
“The drag community consists of many artists and performers who depend on nightlife spaces to earn a living,” said Gunn, a transgender activist. “Many people in our community are struggling right now as a result of the shutdown. I am super thankful to Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire for calling attention to this part of the industry that is often overlooked.”
“This lineup is about inclusivity,” Starrr added. “We have drag queens and beauty gurus, drinkers and non-drinkers like Gia, a Try Guy and a transgender woman. We’re able to connect over our love of performing and just share good food and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire with viewers.”
A current partner with GLAAD, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire and its parent company, Brown-Forman, have a long history of supporting the LGBTQ+ community. For the past decade, Brown-Forman earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, an annual rating on LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion in corporate America. The “Drag Queen Mukbang” partnership is the latest addition to its legacy of allyship.
“Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire is honored to collaborate with such an extraordinary roster of talent to produce a one-of-a-kind content series that also addresses some real issues being faced by the LGBTQ+ community,” said Fabricia da Silva, field marketing manager of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. “This series combines an IRL food trend with a social media phenomenon to create bold and fiery content designed to warm hearts and lift spirits.”
