Caitlyn Jenner Supports Noted Transphobe Joe Rogan Who Mocked Her

Failed politician Caitlyn Jenner has voiced her support for Joe Rogan, the controversial host of a Spotify podcast.

Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, initially drew criticism and added attention due to rampant misinformation being spread about the ongoing viral pandemic. The criticism led some, like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, to pull their music from the platform in protest. The additional attention has also brought out more examinations of the podcast revealing that Rogan had often used racist slurs, called a movie theater in a Black Philadelphia neighborhood a “planet of the apes,” and frequently endorsed and spewed transphobic rhetoric. All of this has caused the likes of Mary L. Trump and Roxane Gay to remove their podcasts from the platform as well.

On Friday, Jenner, who received one percent of the vote in 2021’s California recall election, tweeted in support of Rogan.

“Bye bye Leftover hippies from the 60’s boycotting Joe Rogan on Spotify,” she wrote. “Nobody will miss you. Thank you Spotify for standing up for Rogan!”

In 2020 on an episode of his podcast, Rogan mocked Jenner for going through gender confirmation surgery.

“We’re in la la land,” he said of her in a July 16, 2020 episode.

Spotify seems to have very little appetite for canceling Rogan’s podcast. Instead, the company announced plans to crack down on pandemic misinformation — this would include content advisories much like Facebook and Instagram do. In addition, once a video montage surfaced of Rogan using a racist slur multiple times across multiple episodes, Spotify silently removed as many as 70 episodes. It was expected that each included at least one utterance of the slur. Rogan said that the clips were out of context, included conversations that spanned 12 years, and were mostly quotes. In a video response, the podcast host said he now understood that using the word in any context is inappropriate and that he hadn’t in years.

“It’s not my word to use,” he said. “I’m well aware of that now.”

Spotify reportedly paid $100 million for the podcast and it is reportedly the service’s most popular show.

While he apologized for his racism, Rogan has not made similar statements about his transphobia. On multiple episodes, Rogan has stated or inferred that the acceptance of trans people is a sign of societal collapse. He’s also been blatantly transphobic to specific individuals like MMA fighter Fallon Fox and repeatedly using anti-trans slurs after acknowledging that he shouldn’t.
