Pete Buttigieg Is Playing Mike Pence in Kamala’s Debate Prep

Pete Buttigieg has a new gig playing Mike Pence.
The gay former presidential candidate is standing in for the antigay vice president in debate prep with Kamala Harris, sources told Bloomberg News.
Harris, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, is set to face off with Pence October 7 in Salt Lake City.
Liberals had been looking forward to the debate since Joe Biden announced the California senator as his VP choice. Harris is a former prosecutor who once served as the Golden State’s attorney general.
Harris demonstrated these skills as a fierce debater during the Democratic primary. Her confrontation of Biden about school busing was one of the most memorable moments of the campaign trail. She is also celebrated for her tough questions during Senate hearings, including those involving the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Harris, acknowledging the high expectations at a Monday fundraiser, urged the public to ease them. “He’s a good debater. So, I’m so concerned, like I can only disappoint,” Harris said.
Buttigieg is standing in as Pence due to his past working relationship with the vice president; he served as mayor of South Bend, Ind., while the Republican was governor. On the campaign trail, he frequently targeted the conservative Christian for his anti-LGBTQ+ record.
“My marriage to Chasten has made me a better man and yes, Mr. Vice President, it has moved me closer to God. I can tell you, that if me being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade,” Buttigieg said at an April 2019 event for the LGBTQ Victory Fund.
“And that’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world could understand, that if you have a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me. Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.”
