LGBTQ+ Broadway Stars & Allies Belt ‘Rent,’ ‘Hair’ for Inauguration
LGBTQ+ Broadway Stars & Allies Belt Uplifting Rent/Hair Tunes for Inauguration Queer luminaries and LGBTQ+ allies of Broadway joined together to celebrate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s inauguration day on Wednesday with a mash-up of uplifting tunes from Rent and Hair.
Out stars including Anthony Rapp (Rent), Beth Malone (Fun Home), Ali Stroker (Oklahoma), B.D. Wong, and Peppermint (RuPaul’s Drag Race) joined musical theater icons like Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Betty Buckley, Vanessa Williams, Chita Rivera, and more for Rent’s “Seasons of Love” mashed up with a glorious rendition of “Let the Sunshine In” from Hair.
Broadway darling Seth Rudetsky kicked off the number on the keyboards for a video that also included Andy Karl, Chandra Wilson, Charlotte d’Amboise, Christopher Jackson, Derrick Baskin, Fredi Walker-Browne, James Monroe Iglehart, Javier Muñoz, Jenna Ushkowitz, Jessie Mueller, José Llana, Juli Rudetsky-Wesley, Keala Settle, Leslie Uggams, Mandy Gonzalez, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Olga Merediz, Orfeh, Rosie Perez, Ruthie Ann Miles, Vanessa Williams, Wayne Brady, and Wilson Heredia.
The mash-up was just part of the socially distant inauguration concert that included performances by Bruce Springsteen, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Jon Bon Jovi, and Katy Perry.
