KFC Worker Fired for Screaming ‘F*cking Queers’ at Gay Couple

A KFC worker was fired for hurling slurs at a gay couple.
Joshua Garner and Lee Walls, who live in Springfield, Ill., were picking up an order for the delivery service DoorDash at the chain restaurant when the verbal attack occurred.
Video captured by the couple shows the employee yelling “fucking queers,” among other epithets, over a mask lowered beneath his mouth. His response to being recorded and informed that the men were gay was indifference; he continued to use the hate language. Another employee eventually shut the drive-through window between the parties.
The couple took their story to WAND, a local NBC affiliate, and demanded that the employee and manager be fired.
“I have done two tours in Afghanistan and I have seen some crazy things, but never have I had it where I freeze up, and I just freeze up,” Walls told the outlet.
“It was like a shot to the heart, like a bullet to the heart,” Garner added. “It was like we couldn’t say anything and the only person who could stick up and protect us was my little brother in the back seat.”
The couple called the Springfield police, who arrived at the scene and filed a report, although no other action has been reported yet.
In response to the incident, KFC released a statement condemning it and announcing the firing of the employee. “The behavior of the team member in this video is completely unacceptable, and the team member has been terminated,” the company stated. “The franchisee who owns the restaurant has been in touch with the guest regarding this incident and offered an apology.”
