Ewan McGregor Visits With Indigenous Trans Community in New Series

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are hitting the road again in Long Way Up, an epic 11-part series chronicling the pair’s 13,000 mile motorcycle journey from the southernmost city in South America to sunny Southern California.
In an episode debuting tonight, the two artist-adventurers make a detour to Santo Domingo Tehuantepec in Mexico. There they meet with the Muxes, a group of indigenous Zapotec people assigned male at birth but who now identify and live as female. The custom is somewhat unique to the local culture, and Muxes face generally less stigma and hostility than other members of Mexico’s LGBTQ+ community.
The actor and filmmaker friends meet Donaiji, a Muxe artisan who is observed making a dress for a young girl. McGregor and Boorman learn how Muxes help preserve customs and traditions while also working to create greater acceptance for the community.
Long Way Up pairs the two friends McGregor and Boorman for their first motorcycle adventure in more than a decade. Their current journey crosses 16 borders through 13 countries while riding prototype, electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorcycles. You can watch this episode now on Apple TV+. The season finale posts Friday, November 13.
